Blueberry Avocado and Spinach Power Smoothie

Hi, my name is Mike and I’m an addict.
No, this post is not about chocolate or cauliflower as you might assume, it’s about avocado.
What is it about this green fruit that makes me go crazy?
From salads, to hummus, pesto, brownies, mayo, scrambled eggs, ice-cream, pudding, fries, even cream sauce. I put avocado in and on everything.
Actually, I love avocado so much I might write a song about it (if I only knew how to write music). It’s a love affair that runs deep.

Avocado

With their silky texture and unique flavor, avocados are something that I basically always have a craving for. Which is a good thing.
They are incredibly nutrient dense, meaning that they’re one of those foods that have the max amount of nutrients per calorie.
It's loaded with so many good things our bodies actually need. It's not only rich in fiber, protein, and omega-3 fatty acid, but also delivers many other essential vitamins and minerals too.
Some people even say that avocados are considered one of the healthiest foods to eat on the planet.
I don’t know about that, but still.

Blueberries

I love avocados so much it was only a matter of time before I would add them to my morning smoothie. Let me rephrase that, to my morning power smoothie.
The way I see it, if you start your day with a power smoothie — made with fruit, veggies, and a bunch of good stuff — you will set the tone for the entire day.
When I say power smoothie, I don’t mean your average banana+strawberry+yogurt concoction. Instead, in a power smoothie you combine specific nutrient-packed ingredients so you can sip your way to good health.

Blueberry Avocado and Spinach Power Smoothie

This Blueberry Avocado and Spinach Smoothie is the power smoothie of power smoothies.
A bunch of superfoods such as blueberries, spinach, avocado, chia seeds, some creamy coconut milk, and a touch of honey. Epic.

Blueberry Avocado and Spinach Power Smoothie

  2. I love avocados too... only learned how to eat it in savory foods after moving to the US, and in Brazil growing up avocado was enjoyed exclusively as dessert - beaten up with sugar, eaten with a spoon. Called "creme de abacate" - that's all I had heard of, until guacamole entered my life and I never looked back

I intend to try this power smoothie, although I would probably have it as my lunch... sounds perfect! Such beautiful color!

    2. You would have to adapt the recipe to make it Paleo or Primal, I suppose. Usually a tad of lemon or lime juice is added. Here is a link so you can judge the proportions and change it accordingly - maybe a coconut sugar? some other type of sweetener? Dates? Curious to see what you can come up with...

  3. I guess admitting you have a problem is the first Step, right? LOL.
Nice post and this looks quite delicious. You actually got me putting spinach and avo in my smoothies from previous posts so thank you. :)

    1. Admitting you have a problem is indeed the first step Kev. But is this a real problem?

  5. My cardiologist just told me to start eating more avocados and spinach, potassium yo. Perfect timing! Such yummy foods in this smoothie.

    1. just throw a banana in the mix and you've got more potassium than you can handle ;)

  6. I am with you, avocado is glorious. I cannot think of anything more complete. Hoang, my partnet, is from Vietnam and he did introduce me to a very simple, yet tasty, way of eating avocado: dice one avocado, add one tbsp of condensed milk and some ice if you like. It is probably not the healthiest option, because of the sugar in the condensed milk :)

  7. Would that be canned coconut milk or the thin stuff sold in cartons in the dairy section?

    1. I use canned coconut milk (Aroy-d and Natural Value are my fave brands). I don't know much about the one old in cartons...

  11. I put avocados in everything too! I buy around 6 of them a week and there's only 2 of us! This really is the perfect power breakfast, and I can't wait to try it out (it should break me out of the rut I've been in making the same one over and over)!

  12. The one thing I regret about green smoothies, I had been reluctant to give them a try for so long. The second thing I regret about green smoothies, I had been skeptical about incorporating avocados to them. Adding avocado liftes any simple smoothie up to the next level because of their creamy and silky texture! Agree - epic smoothie, Mike!

  14. Just like a smoothie needs some spinach action, a song needs some lyrics - forget about the music writing...just put down some prose...maybe in the next post? Or, hand over the mason jar!

    1. I'm not good with prose either. I'm just good at food ;)

  15. Been obsessing with adding avocado in smoothies-Especially when frozen, it kills the texture! (in a good way!)

  16. Omg this looks absolutely amazing!!! I view it as just a plus that it's so fricking healthy!!!
I have to say I've never tried an avocado in my life. The first time I was going to try it my mom told me it tastes like egg yolks (which I despise with a passion...) and so I never ever went near one again. However, I think I'll have to try avocado just for this recipe!!!

  17. Oh, I instantly remembered the first ''date'' with avocado :D I was so curious, couldn't wait to maybe explore some serving combinations, instead I took a bite and almost... well, let's not be detailed about it :)))
But after figuring it's not the kind of ''eat it all and now on it's own'' kinda thing, our relationship developed and is going really well so far.
The thing is, here in Croatia we have limited access to avocados :/ I can barely find any.
But as soon as I do, this is the first thing to try.
    Absolutely understand your addiction.
