This is one of the my favorite quotes from Michael Pollan’s Food Rules.
It focuses on the importance of eating real, whole food over any sort of junk food or food like product.

Heavy processing of food - which improves shelf life and palatability - also removes nutrients, adds chemicals and makes food more readily absorbable, which might be a problem for insulin and fat metabolism.
That’s why you should try to avoid heavily processed foods, labeled by Michael Pollan as “edible foodlike substances.”
"They’re highly processed concoctions designed by food scientists, consisting mostly of ingredients derived from corn and soy that no normal person keeps in the pantry, and they contain chemical additives with which the human body has not been long acquainted. Today much of the challenge of eating well comes down to choosing real food and avoiding these industrial novelties1."
I absolutely love Pollan's books! Do you have any other recommended reading that you've come across? I really like continually reading books similar to these as it keeps me motivated!
ReplyDeleteHi Christine,
DeleteA couple of days ago I started reading "Salt, Sugar, Fat: How The Food Giants Hooked Us" by Michael Moss after I a recommendation/tweet by Michael Pollan.
It's so interesting, I'm literally devouring it. I'm sure you would love it too!
Thanks! Just put it on my list, haha, especially if he recommended it!
DeleteI think I might have to pick this up! It's crazy the amount of stuff that's packed into our food, would be great to read something like this to learn about it!

ReplyDeleteHomemade recipes are indeed finger-licking good! What I love most is how versatile and creative they can be. You can prepare savory dishes like tacos, curries, or soups, and also bake desserts like cakes or cookies—all in the same kitchen. The freshness of ingredients makes the taste unbeatable. Cooking at home also gives you full control over health and flavors. But beyond that, it’s the emotions and happiness tied to homemade meals that stand out. Watching family enjoy food you’ve prepared is such a fulfilling feeling. Homemade cooking nourishes both the body and the soul in the best way. rejo a la gallega
