Makeover Time!

September 25, 2014

Guys, can I get a WOOT WOOT?
I honestly think I deserve it.
Sooooo new look. BAM! TheIronYou got a complete makeover, just like that.

Are you guys digging it? I really hope so.
But let's go back for a minute. Let's remember how TheIronYou began.
This was the first "design", circa 2011
This was the first "design", circa 2011

I made it myself and I honestly thought it was super rad.
With the badass triathletes swimming in open water and tagline “Live every day life like an Ironman”
After a couple of months, I made a "major" change (aka the font)

M-A-J-O-R change right?
Hehehehehe
But soon I got tired of the picture, and decided to get rid of it.
In addition, I had fallen in love with a font called “Sideburn Bob” (cool name, right?) that I wanted to use.
And I went for a minimal look…

It stayed like that for a couple of months, before I realized it was too minimal.
In the meantime, I had taken a couple of photoshop workshops, and watched a gazillion video tutorial on YouTube on how to tweak/improve your blog.
I worked (very hard) for like a week and come up with the blog design you've grown accustomed to over the last year and half.

I honestly loved my “homemade” design.
Primarily because I made it myself - I thought it looked really awesome.
The triathlon doodles, the tagline, the clean style, it was so me.
I thought I would never change it but about a month ago, I felt the time was ripe for TheIronYou to get a makeover.
Pageviews have increased dramatically over the last year or so (thank you guys!) and I realized the design look a bit dated and amateurish. I knew I needed an experienced designer to change TheIronYou, to make it look more professional.
I talked to several designers and decided to go with Liz of SweetSimplicityDesign.
I still don’t remember how I found her, but since I stumbled on her website I digged her style and she sounded so cool and laid-back.
We “clicked” immediately (even though we communicate only via email) and started working on the new look for TIY right away.
It has been a fun process, although a huge labor of love.
Each and every element, from the font on this, to the button shape and size of that, needs to be chosen. Very time consuming, but at the same so rewarding.
A big "thank you" goes to Liz for all of her hard work, patience and - most of all - for being able to decipher my requests - I know it wasn't easy.

Sooooo this is the new TheIronYou, I hope you will love it as much as I do!

    1. I know that WP is better than Blogger on so many levels, but I'm so used to it and it's so easy to use (and cheap) I prefer not change...

  18. I did not realize that your most recent design (the one in place when I was introduced to your blog) was 'homemade'. I actually really like that design. That said, I'm glad you found a designer you like and got your makeover done. It looks good.

  19. I love the new look, Mike! Change is good. It's nice that you and your web designer connected and she made the experience pleasant. That's really important. I've been thinking about making some changes to my blog too. I bought my domain name, but have been taking my time switching everything over.
