One Avocado A Day Keeps The Doctor Away

I’m became obsessed with avocados more or less a year ago. I have to thank my Aussie friend Rey for making me discover this amazing fruit.
We were having lunch in the kitchen in our Loft and I remember precisely what she said while digging into a ripe avocado: “OMG I love avocados! They’re so good and they are also very healthy. You should try some Mike”. I try it and it was indeed an excellent one; since that moment I got completely hooked on avocados. Of course, before including them in my eating regimen I did my fair share of research...

Get Yourself A Juicer!

If you want to get really healthy there’s one item in your kitchen that you should absolutely get: a juicer!
Here @TheIronYou we are firmly convinced that juicing is the final key to giving you a radiant life and optimal health (yes, yes I know I’m overselling this a little bit!)
But truth is, almost every health authority across the globe recommends that we get anywhere from 6 to 8 servings of vegetables and fruits per day. And very few of us actually get that.
Juicing is an easy way to virtually guarantee that you will reach your daily target for fruits and vegetables.
While you can certainly juice fruits, you might wanna limit that if you are overweight, have high blood pressure, diabetes or high cholesterol. But you can certainly juice veggies, especially dark leafy green vegetables that provide most of the benefits of juicing. And if you’re scared of the bitter taste you can always add lemon or lime: they’re amazing in getting rid of it!

No Time To Exercise? Do Interval Training Then!

I would like to exercise more but I just don’t have enough time!”, I’ve heard this excuse so many times in my life that it is has become one of the few things that really gets to my nerves. Fortunately (for me) the "lack of time" excuse has been blown away by a research published in The Journal of Physiology.
The study, from scientists at Canada's McMaster University, adds to the growing evidence for the benefits of short term high-intensity interval training (HIT) as a time-efficient but safe alternative to traditional types of moderate long term exercise.
Surprisingly, it is possible to get more by doing less!

Whole Wheat Sweet Potato Gnocchi

My friends always pick on me saying that I never eat real food but just raw ingredients.
In some way they’re right because having a balanced diet sometimes entails sacrificing taste since you watch out for everything your put in your stomach.

But today I’m gonna prove them wrong because we’re making whole wheat sweet potato gnocchi. The great thing about this recipe is that it’s super simple and it is based on my favorite food possible: sweet potatoes. Ok, about time to hit the kitchen!

Calories Counting Is No Longer Enough!

We have already discussed this many times, in order to stay lean and fit you should not only exercise but also restrict your total calories intake (aka eat less). This becomes even more true when you’re aging.
Recently, a new research conducted by five nutrition and public health experts at Harvard University and published on The New England Journal of Medicine, has analysed the factors that influence weight gain.
The result of such study are astonishing, to put it mildly. Most of all, they support all our views and especially what we believe in here on TheIronYou.

Actually, they support the very reason this blog exists. You might have then figured out how excited we are. So, let’s see what is all about...

There has been a lot of controversy about high fructose corn syrup (HFCS) in the news and online lately, particularly about its relationship to obesity, diabetes, and the food chain in general. The movie Food, Inc. injected HFCS more into the general consciousness, although nutritionists have been debating about it for some time.
