Always Leave The Table A Little Bit Hungry

Eat less, live longer: that’s what the general consensus seems to be.
And it’s true since in today’s world we tend to eat too much and, according to almost all the latest researches, people who restrict their diet and eat fewer calories (of course, based on their gender, body size and activity level) may add a few years to their life. If not, they are probably likely to suffer less health issues during their lifetime.

I could cite countless studies that have proven these points but we have already done it in the post: “Exercise + Restricted Calories Intake = Forever Young”.
Today instead I want to give you a piece of advice that comes directly from my grandma.
When we were having lunch or dinner at her place she used to always say “You should always leave the table just a little bit hungry”.
And you know what? That totally makes sense because it takes our minds 20 minutes or so to record all the food that we just ate.  Hence, that sensation that you still need to eat something is likely to disappear really fast!
Also, the idea of not over stuffing ourselves, promotes the idea of eating a little lighter than our taste buds would prefer.

If you think about it our metabolisms are basically our fires burning inside us.  And just like a fire, feed it too much wood and you’ll snuff out the flames.
In conclusion: “Leave the table a little bit hungry!

  1. With the holiday weekend around the corner, thanks for the great reminder to slow down when we eat.
For those growing up as members of the "Clean Plate Club" small plates are also a great way to signal us when we are done.
