Robbie Williams, Lady Gaga and Ashton Kutcher: Three Bikram Yoga Devotees!

May 28, 2011

What Robbie Williams, Lady Gaga and Ashton Kutcher have in common?
Ok, yes, they’re famous people, we know that, but they also share one passion: Bikram yoga!
I just picked three VIPs but there are a lot of other personalities that are devotees of this practice; for instance Carmen Electra, Jim Carrey and Jenny McCarthy are also raving about it.
But wait, the aim of this post is not to do name dropping. I mean, if I can convince you to give Bikram yoga a shot just by mentioning the like of Gaga I’m more than happy.
But actually what’s interesting is how practicing Bikram yoga has helped those three personalities in different ways.
Let’s explore a little bit more about it...

Robbie Williams Bikram Yoga

Robbie Williams

Robbie Williams has got himself hot, sweaty and all worked up about his Take That comeback doing Bikram yoga.
Apparently Robbie suffers from stage-fright and he knows the eyes of the world will be watching his proper stage reunion with Take That. But since he’s very determined to beat his "crippling anxiety", he has taken up Bikram yoga.
For the past three months, 37-year-old Robbie has been sweating it out while mastering the discipline's 26 poses, from the "rabbit" to the "fixed firm".
Robbie reckons his twice weekly sessions has helped him shed a stone and overcome his nerves.
Robbie has turned to Bikram yoga to refocus his pent-up energy and handle stress more effectively. After a couple of sessions he was hooked.
Robbie's been using meditation and yoga to help his stage-fright and to keep him sane on tour.
He believes meditation has helped, too: "Mentally, all I'm projecting is positive. All I can see is being healthy and happy, and an amazing show." Robbie told recently to the English tabloid "The Mirror".

Lady Gaga

The Lady has been a devotee of Bikram yoga already for some time. Actually she is believed to have begun practicing Bikram yoga in NYC around six years back prior to her rising to fame.
Lady Gaga showed off her rocking body recently at the Grammy awards. The monster mega star and New York native gets her monster abs working out Bikram Yoga Lower East Side, in her old neighborhood. And when she's on tour she always manage to find a studio where to practice (like the one in Zurich in the picture below).
She mostly does private sessions in which the world's hottest star strips down to her red undies for one hot workout in nearly 105-degree heat.
But for Lady Gaga Bikram yoga is not only a way to stay fit, most recently she took it upon herself to spread the self-compassionate word on "The Ellen DeGeneres Show."
When America's most beloved talk-show host asked the world's biggest pop star about starting the day with self-kind thoughts, Gaga explained: "My Birkam yoga teacher Tricia always says: 'Please try every day to have 15 minutes of compassionate thoughts by yourself.' I have narrowed it down to 5 because 15 drives me mental. It's very helpful!"
Ellen shared her heart-felt support with the nouveau poster child for self-compassion: "I think if everyone did that, the world would be a kinder place!"

Ashton Kutcher

Ashton Kutcher is a workout fanatic. He's motivated not only by vanity, but also by a desire to make sure he can survive if the world ends.
"All of my physical fitness regimen is completely tailored around the End of Days," Kutcher, 32, tells the January 2011 issue of Men's Fitness. "I stay fit for no other reason than to save the people I care about.”
That's why Ashton, who's married to Demi Moore, 48, does hours of Bikram yoga, runs hills at Runyon Canyon near his L.A. home and trains in Krav Maga, a hand-to-hand combat technique developed by the Israeli army.
Ashton Kutcher explained that he pretends he’s in the desert with no water while going through a Bikram Yoga session and he always makes it through class.
So yes, Ashton practices Bikram yoga in preparation to save his beloved ones should the world ends.

Considerations

As you can see there are numerous reason to practice Bikram yoga. It can help fighting stagefright, or learning to be more compassionate towards yourself or preparing yourself in case the world ends.
Truth is when you spend 90 minutes with a lot of people in room that's over 110 degrees, everyone's too hot. It doesn't matter if you're a celebrity, a triathlete or an overweight woman the room levels the playing field.
No matter how successful, clever or strong you are you’ll feel all the same.
You're going to become more aware of others, more aware of yourself, and eventually start to see yourself as no different from anyone else. Even if you don't know why you came in, you come out nicer. Trust me, I’ve learnt it on myself.
But that's not it, by practicing Bikram you will improve in some many and unexpected ways.
